We have all heard of MP3, right? That is the
format used for most songs that you download on the internet.Well, there are other MPEG file formats, and MP4 is one of them. What is the
MP4 format?
The use is not much different for an MP4....you
can use it for sound, video, audio, or even photos on your computer.
Some devices claim to be MP4 players, but this
usually means that the device is an MP3 player with the ability to play MP4 files, like AMV videos
or some other formatted data.
Mostly, MPEG-4 is based on ISO/IEC 14496-12:2004. This is actually
based directly on Appleās QuickTime format. Just as many other container formats allow streaming over the internet,
the MP4 can do the same thing.
There are a lot of different uses for mp4, but do not confuse MP4
files with MP4 file extensions. A lot of users get confused about the existence of two files, both MP4s, that are
named the same. The difference is that one is an .M4A file extension, and one is an actual MP4 audio
file.
This might seem confusing to you, but with a simple look at the
file specifications you can easily tell which is which. If you want to keep the file, do not delete the original
MP4! You need to keep it to retain all of the data.
In some cases, the file extension will not have enough data to
actually play back the file unless you retain the original. So, just be a little bit cautious with the delete
button.
MP4s are used by a lot of people for a lot of different things,
the process to convert MP4
to DVD is straightforward, but you might need to have a computer up to date enough to read them;
this should not be a problem unless your computer is a dinosaur from another era!
